My hotel is located near Venezia Santa Lucia, we are arriving via Marco Polo Airport on a Friday morning at 9:00am. What do you recommend is the best way to reach Venezia Santa Lucia? Is it worth it to get a taxi-how much should it cost?

taxi - water taxi, the only kind that can get to the Ferrovia - €120 plus or minus. Plus the long walk at the airport.
bus from right next to the arrivals hall direct to Piazzale Roma plus a quick walk over the bridge (great view) - €6 or €8 depending on how you pay for it.

Just to add- you could also take a land taxi from the airport to Piazzale Roma, then walk across the bridge. I think it's a flat fee. The last rate I saw was €40 but it could be more now.

Since the bus goes every 15 minutes and is right outside the airport exit door, I'd lean lean toward that one.
There is a difference on the "best" way, depending on if I am paying or someone else is paying.
