Hi All, Although I saw a posting and responses on how to get to Lucca from Avignon, I have a similar question. I need to get to CT from Avignon. I will not be renting a car and prefer to travel by train. If going across the border by train is not a good option, would I be better off going back to Lyon/Dijon and then come down to Italy via Milan or Florence? Any suggestions would be helpful. is La Spezia the nearest/biggest/best connected station near CT. Thanks in advance.

You are looking at a 9.0hr-10hr journey via Marsailles, Nice and Genoa. Backtracking to Lyon/Dijon would not save you time. The CT is 3hrs from Milan. As for La Spezia, it is just minutes south of the CT. You will go through the CT to get to La Spezia. If you buy a ticket to your specific CT town, you will change trains at either Monterosso or someplace north to a local CT train.
