Best way to get tickets for St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace

Hi! We'll be in Venice in 2 weeks and are wondering the best way to get tickets for St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace. Is it better to hire a guide, or join at tour? Thanks!

We enjoyed the Secret Itineraries tour at the Doge’s Palace. We didn’t do a tour for St. Mark’s, just wandered through on our own.

The best way to get tickets is always through the official website.

I second the recommendation for the Secret Itineraries Tour of the Doges Palace. We did the English language tour last October and it was quite interesting and informative. And, as noted, purchase advance tickets from the official sites. I highly recommend visiting the Campanile, as well. An elevator whisks you to the top where you can enjoy a 360 degree view of Venice (and beyond). I don’t think there’s a need for a guide at St. Mark’s.

I concur on secret itineraries tour which I took the first of last September. I booked directly on website for the Palace, it was easy to do. https://palazzoducale.visitmuve.it/en/home/. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour, very interesting. Well done.

I also toured the basilica wiith pala d’oro and it was very impressive. Also booked directly on website: https://basilicasanmarco.skiperformance.com/en/store#/en/buy?skugroup_id=2524

A guide could useful for the Basilca, depending on your level of interest. I just picked up the audio guide.

Enjoy. BTW if you are not feeling up to climbing the bell tower in Saint Mark Square take a Vaporetto / traghetti Over to Giorgio San Maggiore. The church there has a bell tower and an elevator.. it was six or seven euros cash only. Fantastic view of Venice and all around. Also, many fewer people, and the calm there was a pleasant change from the crowds.

Last year I bought the Saint Marks tickets on line making sure that we could see the horses and go out on the gallery. The Doge’s Palace was part of a Venice Civic Museum card which we used over three days and found very convenient. We bought it at the Museo Correr located straight across the piazza from the Basilica.
