Best way to get from Termini Station to Baileys Hotel/Via Flavia

What would be the best way for us to get from the Termini Station to our hotel, Baileys, on Via Flavia? I think I read somewhere that hotel is about a 10 min. walk from the station, but can't remember if that was this hotel/station or another one on our itinerary. Do people typically walk with their luggage to hotels, or would it be better to get a cab? We will be traveling very light (basically small suitcase w/wheels & carry-on bag). Physically, we're fine with walking, but I had someone tell me that it may be tough due to uneven streets, sidewalk problems, etc. If anyone is familiar with this hotel/walk, please let me know which would be the way to go.

You can check out the walk for yourself using Google Maps Streetview and the "Directions" feature. Click the Walking icon and then drag the little yellow guy onto the map and see for yourself how the walk looks. I just did it myself and even though it says it would take 10 minutes, I wouldn't want to do that with wheeled luggage and a bag. Taxis in Rome are a pretty good deal, esp. if there are two of you. I suggest a taxi. Should be less than 10 Euros, I bet.

If it is less than a mile we almost always walk. But we do not use wheeled luggage in Europe because of rough sidewalks, cobble stones, streets, general crowding, etc., so it is easy just one carry on, backpack style of bag. I would say it is mostly personal preference.

Great idea, Michael! (gotta love technology). Yeah, I kind of agree with you - 10 minutes doesn't seem like a long walk until you throw in hauling suitcases on uneven streets. Might just be a bit cumbersome. I'm a visual person, so it was very helpful to actually see where we'd be walking. I think we'll just look for an official cab & take it from there! (any tips for finding a cab at the Termini?)

To get a taxi at the Termini, you just have to find a taxi stand. Look for the line of cabs. Don't go with someone who approaches you.

Anne, Although the Bailey's Hotel website indicates that Termini station is only a 10 minute walk, in my experience it will take longer than that, especially when hauling luggage and being unfamiliar with the exact location. After you've been there for a few days, the situation will be different. In those circumstances, I usually take a Taxi even if it is only a short distance. You won't have any problems finding the Taxi rank at Termini. With the tracks to your back, walk right out the front door and the Taxi's will be directly in front of you. The usual "protocol" is to take the Taxi at the head of the line, but I normally just take the first one that I encounter. That looks like a nice Hotel! It's reasonably close to the National Museum of Rome, should you be planning to visit there. Happy travels!

I would walk - it is very close and there is some interesting stuff to see on the
way......it will also help to orient yourself to the neighborhood.

Thank you, all! We're planning on taking a taxi from station to hotel, then we'll see how things go when we have to head back to the station in a few days (once we have our bearings!). Leaving tomorrow morning! Again, a big thanks to all on this helpline - you have been an amazing help with my planning!
