We will be taking the local train to Naples and storing our bags at the station. Just wondering how to take the metro to the museum and if our ticket from Sorrento will takes us there.

The Circumvesuviana will get you to Napoli Centrale. Once there, purchase tix for the Metro from a machine or window, then take the L1 Metro to "Museo".

That is correct. However, the Circumvesuviana ticket is just good for the train. There is a ticket booth, a little to the right in the middle of the plaza in front of the train station. It should be obvious. Buy you bus ticket there including the return. All the buses leave from the far side of the plaza. It is pretty orderly.

The metro, Circumvesuviana and Trenitalia are separate companies. You need separate tickets for each. Not sure why Frank mentions the bus.
