Best Way to Get from Naples to Positano

Hello, am looking for recommendations on the best way to get from Naples to Positano. Is it taking a train from Naples to Sorrento, and then a bus from Sorrento to Positano? Can we take the same way going back?

Also thought about a boat ride, but we are going in mid-march and I've heard boats don't run off season.

Thank you!
Heather

"Best" is pretty subjective. Yes, you can take the Circumvesuviana from Napoli Centrale (C. station is downstairs) to Sorrento, then change to a bus to Positano. You can do the same thing in reverse. Best = cheapest.

Or you can have a private transfer, from Napoli to your hotel in Positano. Best = simplest. But much more expensive.

How many people in your travel family or group? The more people involved, such as 3 or 4, the more a private direct transfer makes sense, compared to train and bus tickets for multiple people. I think a private transfer that takes you and your baggage directly from your door in Naples to your door in Positano, is one of Italy's most worthwhile splurges. Cost should be around €100, more or less.

Beware of late arrival in Naples - it can be harder to get out of town at night.. Are you flying in? How heavy is your luggage? Can you deal with crowded urban mass transit?

It will just be my husband and I, so 2 of us in the group. We will be driving in, in a rental car, from Tuscany. Thinking we will drive from Tuscany to Naples or Sorrento and drop off the rental car to then make our way to Positano. I don't think I'm up for driving the car into Positano :)

We will have our luggage with us, which will likely be "larger" sized suitcases since we are spending 2 weeks in Italy overall. I may not be concerned about the time it takes to get there at least coming in, but concerned about if there is a place for suitcases on the bus? Guessing not if it is a city bus type transport.

The private transfer companies I've looked at are charging around 120 euro each way...is that a standard rate? Let me know if anyone on here has recommendations for a private transfer company, in case we go that route.

Thank you all for the input!
