Best way to get from Fiumicino Airport to hotel near Temini?

Our Hotel has offered to send a driver for our family of five for 70 euros.
We could take the train for a total of 55 euros...
Or the Rome airport shuttle for 59 euros.
Does anyone have any experience or advice on which is the best way to go?

We took the Leonardo Express from FCO to Termini and yes for 11Eur each you will spend 55 Euros for a family of 5. The trip was about 30 min and our hotel was 10-15 min walk from Termini. Traffic could be a problem in Rome and so the train works well for that. The advantage of having the hotel send for you is you don't have to wander around looking for your hotel while pulling luggage since you get dropped off right at your hotel.

Unless is it walkable you would still have to get from Termini to your hotel. For an extra $15 over the shuttle, the driver would probably be more convenient.

I believe that the standard taxi fare from FCO to Rome is 44Euro. However, your party of five may require a larger vehicle that may cost more money. You are correct about the 55Euro fare for the Leonardo Express. At Rome Termini, you may need to take the metro or a taxi to get to your hotel so you'll need to add in that cost as well.

Paul,

Using the Leonardo Express to Termini is the most cost effective option.

It would help to know which area your Hotel is located, as transportation from Termini to your Hotel could easily exceed the €70 that your Hotel driver is charging (when added to the fares for the Leonardo Express).

To add to Larry's comments....taxi rates from the airport to anywhere within the Aurelian walls (just about every hotel a tourist would go to) is fixed by law...it was 40 Euro from FCO a couple of years ago, but it may have risen since then. Unfortunately, they only take 4 passengers.

Just returned last night. We contacted the hotel where we were staying and they were able to arrange car service for 40 Euros for 2 people. Now, what I am saying is that I would appeal to the hotel first, because then you will have a fixed price, and probably a better price than if you try to arrange it from this end. Give it a try, you don't have anything to lose. We decided the additional expense was worth it to not be trying to hassle with all the details and major jet lag as well.

When we were in Rome last year, we arranged for a "limo" service several times from www.romeshuttlelimousine.com - several of our party were arriving or leaving at different times. They sent an appropriate sized vehicle each time, the driver was helpful and courteous, and it was a comfortable ride. I don't recall how much the fee was last year, but this year, I have arranged for them to pick the 4 of us up at Fiumcino and deliver us to a hotel in the historic center (near Trevi) for 50 euro. When the train would cost us 44 euro plus transportation from Termini to the hotel, I consider this a deal.
