Best way to get from Best Western FLR to Pisa

Hi,
We are staying at the Best Western near FLR and heading to Pisa the next day. On paper it seems like a toss-up between taking the tram back to the airport and the bus from FLR to PIsa Airport vs tram to Florence train station and the train to Pisa. I'm leaning towards the train figuring it'll be easier to do some sightseeing in Pisa before meeting friends late afternoon (a few towns over, so we'll taxi there either way).

I figured the hive mind might have good advice on bus vs train. We'll have 2 rolling suitcases and school=type backpacks if that matters in the calculation. Which raises another question... looking at the tram website, it appears we can only take one carryon size bag each... does that mean that with backpacks we'll need to buy an extra ticket each? One of the suitcases will probably be a 24" (checked) bag.

TIA,
Alison

If the Best western is the one in via Baracca, wondering why you are staying there; its only virtue is being close to airport, but you are not going to the airport! You are assuming that the hotel is on the tram line, but it is not so close to the tram line as it looks.

My personal advice is taking a taxi to the railway station (SMN) and a train for Pisa. There is no point to going to Pisa airport, then you have to take the Pisa mover to get the station. Buses for the Pisa airport, anyway, do not leave from FLR airport but either from SMN, or from the Guidoni tram stop (this is likely to change in the next months as most buses will be transferred to the Guidoni stop). The Guidon stop is not distant from the via Baracca hotel, still it is not a particularly nice walk.

Thanks... we come in to the airport the night before, so just picked BW since I'm a member.

Thanks for confirming that train is the way to go. That T2 Guodoni stop didn't look like it was at the airport.
