We plan to be in Barcelona for 3 days then get to Rome for 3 days. We researched www.wegolo.com. Seems like Vueling airline would get us there for about $300 one way. It is very expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get from Barcelona to Rome, either by surface or by air? We are only looking for one-way for now, as we will be heading to Belfast after Rome. Thanks, Kathy
Eurorail will take you overnight between Barcelona and Rome. It's a great way to travel and inexpensive if you've got the time. Happy travels.
When are you flying? $300 for Vueling seems expensive, unless you're flying tomorrow. Is that $300 per person? The cheapest I see for Vueling or Clickair (they're joining together) is 60 Euro per person. Unfortunately, rail trips Barcelona-Rome take more than 24 hours, with several changes along the way, and can be very expensive. For discount airline flights, the best site is whichbudget.com. It's a directory with links to the airlines themselves, not a booking engine, so you go directly to the "horse's mouth," so to speak.
As Norm mentioned, and I've posted in the other sections you've asked about flights, please tell us when you are going.
I plugged in an arbitrary day in August and got $125 as the cost per ticket.
So, you see, if we don't know the date, how can we help?
OH, and in addition to what Norm also mentioned, the Clickair name will cease to exist in a couple of weeks. The merged airline will just be known as Vueling. (Some of their flights will be codeshare with Alitalia.)
The overnight ferry is another possibility, though it may be around $300 for two people as well. We did this in the other direction a couple of years ago on Grimaldi lines. It would get you to Civitavecchia (Rome's port), and then you'd get the train on it (just as you would if you arrived at Rome's airport).
P.S. to previous post. I should have mentioned the other positives to this method of transport: you save a night's hotel room and don't have to deal with airports! (The port in Barcelona is basically right at the foot of the Ramblas.) Also, just to point out the obvious: this is a lot of travel time and expense for just three days each in Barcelona and Roma. Either would merit a six-day visit. "Assume you will be back."
As I posted under our Edinburgh to Barcelona question...
You can fly on the 16th from Barcelona to Rome on either Vueling or Clickair with fares starting at 50 Euros.
Thanks all for your advice. I will continue to check Vueling and clickair. ~Kat
