Best Way To and From Lake Como (Verenna)

Hey all,

I'm doing some travel research on behalf of my brother and his wife. They have a limited time in Europe this July, to attend a friend's wedding in Lake Como. My brother has been to Europe once, and loved Paris, so he wants to start his trip with 4 nights in Paris, then they're staying in a shared AirBnB for 3 nights in Lake Como, then coming to stay with me in Stuttgart, Germany.

When spitballing I wondered if it might be possible for them to take a scenic train from Lake Como to Germany, but the train time is double the regular driving time. Doesn't seem worth it at all.

From Paris to Como also seems problematic, I see there's a night train but I don't think they'd want to take away a night in Paris for that kind of transit.

As a result of all this, I've suggested their best bet is flying into and out of Milan, which seems to often have a lot of good deals with the budget airlines. But I just wanted to run this by the smart people here and make sure I'm not overlooking anything.

This can be done in 10 hours vs 6 1/2 hours driving by viamichelin's figures. Trick is not to take the named "Bernina Express" train but stick to the regular trains. Leave at 7:24 and in Stuttgart Hbf by 19:32.

And I would concur that flying to Milan from Paris would work. Fairly easy, either from Malpensa (2 train rides) or Linate (bus/taxi and 1 train ride) to Varenna.

Even flying to Bergamo (bus or cab from airport to station and train from there to Varenna-Esino) might be an option? We've done the train from Bergamo to Varenna and it was cheap and painless: one change in Lecco. Took about 75 minutes.

Sarah,
I have taken the train from Milan Centrale station to Varenna on Lake Como. About 1 hour train ride, very scenic especially if you sit on the left side of the train to overlook Lake Como. Also, very cheap fare, approx. 8 Euros.
