Best way from Siena to Milan?

Hi,

I will be staying at an agriturismo just outside of Siena and will need to get to Milan for a 4 pm flight. We will be renting a car while we're at the agriturismo. What's the best way to get to Milan from Siena? Should we take the car, or return it and take the bus or train? Also, if we take the car, would it be horrible to leave Siena the same day as our flight? Our flight isn't til 4 PM and we would leave very early in the morning, I'd rather do that than have to spend the second to last day of our trip traveling.

Viamichelin says 4 1/2 hours with 4 hours on motorways. 25 euro in tolls and 50 euro for fuel. So I'd say if you left at 8 am, you'd have a good cushion. You didn't say it was a Sunday of a 3-day holiday weekend.

if it was me I'd drive a day earlier, return the car and stay overnight at a hotel next to the airport.

I would return the car in Siena or Florence Sunday afternoon, stay close to the respective station, and get a train(s) around 7am to Milan on Monday morning (just to be sure).
