My family will be finishing a 2 weeks tour of Italy and would like to take a side trip to Chamonix. We would like to visit Mont Blanc and do a couple of hiking trails and go up Aiguille du Midi and breath in the magnificent views. We would like to know the best and easiest way to get to Chamonix. Leaving Rome the 10 th of August for 3 night stay in Chamonix. Thank you in advance for your information.
Looks like its a 'pick your poison' kind of trip
You will end up using quite a bit of time just traveling. You could take a high speed train and then rent a car. Going through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Chamonix. That will leave 1 day for exploration. But it will take a day to get back too!
By side trip, I mean taking the last leg of our trip in Chamonix and then return to Canada by way of Geneva or Lyon.
3 nights in Chamonix from Rome literally gives you only one day in the Alps. I would consider the Dolomites (Ortisei) and flying home from Milan.
Fly. FCO-GVA. Flight 1H35 min. Easyjet, Vueling and Hop all have service between the two. Then bus from the airport to Chamonix 1 1/2 hrs.
