We are going via train in June from Levanto to Venice. We could go to Genoa to Venice? Or through Bologna? Suggestions are gladly received - looks to be such a LONG ride! 6 hours???

Generally the specific routing is unimportant unless there is interested in getting off along the route. I would go with the routing that best fits your time and schedule. Your are going from one side of Italy to the other.

I'd vote for fastest with fewest changes. That makes an IC train to Milan changing to a Freccia train to Venice look like the best,
