Hey,
What is the best way to get from Florence to Cinque Terre. My Eurail guide doesn't say that there's a train going out that way. Is there a train from Florence to Genoa that you can get off at Cinque Terre?
Thanks!
Eurail doesn't list many local trains. Search on the Trenitalia site at http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html and you'll see the trains. There are many each day, just about hourly depending on destination.
BTW you can't say "cinque terra", you have to put in one of the 5 towns.
Emily, there are lots of trains that leave Florence towards the CT. There are no direct trains. You will change trains in Pisa, La Spezia or both depending on the run. Many of these runs consist partially or wholly of local "R" trains. Eurail doesn't play well with R trains.
CLICK HERE to see a schedule for part of the day from Florence to Monterosso. Click next to see later trains. The ride will take you just under 3.0hrs. to get to Monterosso. Or, you can sign on the www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html and do this yourself. Don't worry about advance reservations. You can't make them on the R trains anyway. Just buy your tickets a day or two in advance of your journey.
There is a train travelling from Florence to Genoa north of the Cinque Terra, and also to La Spezia which is to the south.
