Hi I would like to take a scenic walk from the Ghetto to St. Marks Square. Thankful for any suggestions. :)
Every place you walk in Venice is scenic.
Follow the yellow signs on the street corners.

They indicate the major spots:
San Marco (St. Mark)
Ferrovia (railway station)
Piazzale Roma (parking lots)
Rialto (Rialto bridge).
Accademia (Academy).
Etc.
But if you get out of those main paths and get lost in some 'calle' occasionally, it's even better. There is nothing like getting lost in Venice labyrinth of calli and canals. Eventually you'll get back at a corner where you'll see the yellow signs to put you back on the right path.
I agree. We just followed the signs... enjoyed our walks and always ended up where we wanted to (sooner or later).
The chance of getting lost may be greater than the chance of following a plan, but it's only temporary.
You could do some research into various walks in Venice, and piece together ones that fit your interests. There is at least one book out there called something like 24 Walks in Venice. Have you tried your question as a Google search? I bet there are websites with scenic walks with information about what you'll see along the walk.
Just be warned -- there are places where the signs may say "San Marco" and point BOTH ways. (There's a t-shirt of this.) But it's all part of the charm of Venezia.
What they're telling you is that either direction will get you to San Marco, of course. Those double signs remind me of the old Yogi Berra line: "When you come to the fork in the road, take it." :-)
Thank you everyone :)
Walk until you hit some water, turn around and go the other way.
Getting lost is not bad either. We went out one morning with out a map (dumb!) and got really lost. Following Rick's advice, we went into a coffee shop for a placemat and sure enough it had a map. We also got the best hot chocolate of our lives!
I got lost in Venice at age 17. (1975!) It is the best memory I have from that trip. It didn't take long to find St. Mark's again, but OH! the adventure!
