Best Tuscany Hotel within 1 hour of Florence

We are traveling to Tuscany this summer and would love recommendations on the best hotels within 1 hour of Florence (and FLR airport).

This will be our second time to Tuscany and previously spent a week in Montepulciano and surrounding area. This time we only have 3 days, and would like to be relative close to FLR to catch a mid-morning departing flight. We loved Montepulciano but want to explore somewhere new this trip, and also something closer to FLR given our shorter time.

Looking for something that is quiet and scenic. We don’t want to be in a large hotel complex (think 30+ rooms) but also don’t want to be isolated away from restaurants/wineries/etc. ideally would like something in the hills with a view overlooking the valleys/vineyards.

We have been looking in the areas south and southwest from Florence (around San Gimignano, Radda/Chianti, etc) but are open to anywhere +/- 1 hour back to the airport. This would be for 2 adults and flexible on price range.

Any recs would be greatly appreciated!

One that caught my eye and has great reviews is Hotel Molino di Foci near San Gimignano. Anyone have any personal experience staying here?

Others in the area that are better?

You need to return your car about 2 hours before your flight, as the rental car center is a bit offsite (requires a shuttle back to the terminals) and the traffic into Florence is not that great after 7:30am, so what could be one hour from the airport at certain times, would be longer during the morning commute into the city.

Having clarified that, I think you should decide what towns/areas you want to explore, then decide where to stay. Tuscany is a large region and within the city limits of Florence alone there are about 400 hotels. There are virtually thousands within a one hour radius, just within the metropolitan area.

Yes, the area we want to stay is around San Gimignano or Radda/Chianti. We want to be outside of the city in the hills of Tuscany, somewhere quiet and peaceful, but with easy access to/from the airport.

We stayed in the Montepulciano area previously and loved it there, but want to try somewhere different this trip. Since we only have 3 days, we also thought being within an hour of the airport would be convenient.

I am mostly targeting the area around San Gimignano, but am also open for other recommendations. Our ideal spot would be somewhere with a wonderful view, comfortable accommodations, and easy access to nearby wineries, towns, and restaurants.
