Best transportation options from Belluno, Italy to Llubljana, Slovenia Sept 14, 2023

What is the best way to get from Belluno, Italy to Llubljana, Slovenia leaving Sept 14, 2023. We need to be in Llubljana late afternoon on the 15th. Bus or train? Schedules do not seem to be available yet. We can stop overnight if we need to. Any idea on costs would be helpful. Thanks in advance, Scott

Hello scott,

I think your best bet is to search from Venice to Llubljana for see the best options and know that you can get from Belluno to Venice by train.

Flixbus appears to service the route from either Venice Mestre at about 3.5 hours and $20 a couple of times a day.

Company DRD also appears to service this route for slightly less money

The tricky part about Venice is differentiating the various stops. Mestre is the train station on the mainland just before the long bridge to Venice city. Marco Polo is the airport and Tronchetto is a transport hub at the city itself. Coming by train Mestre is the easiest change for you and realistically the airport or mainlands buses are probably the exact same bus just stopping at Mestre on their way out of town.

The other potential path is to take the train to Trieste and see about a bus or train service from Trieste to Llubljana which is a much closer distance. It looks like the line is serviced by the same companies - probably even the same bus - and maybe a few more like Croatia Bus International.

The Belluno to Mestre (Venice) train runs pretty regularly (every hour or so) and takes about 1.75 hours direct (slightly more for routes with a change). This will be a day of travel - probably ~2 hours train, (wait) 3.5 hour bus or something similar but should be easily doable in a single day because early morning trains from Belluno can get you into Mestre well before the bus leaves.
If you wanted to break it up I would recommend train to Trieste ~4.5 hours assuming there a bus to take you across the border for the last 1.5 hour trip if that fits your schedule.

Slovenia is both EU and Schengen so crossing the border should be a non-event but I haven't done it so I don't know what processing might be in place as a non-resident.

Hope that helps,

A number of us have used, and been happy with, this company in that area of the world.

I used them last fall for a trip from Graz Austria to Ljubljana. Door to door and reasonable.
