Best transportation from Venice airport

We are traveling in May and looking for best option to get from airport to the Dorsoduro area (where our Airbnb is).
Four adults arriving around noon but check in is at 4pm. Not sure yet if we can drop luggage early so was thinking maybe we do Grand Canal tour if we can’t. Then I guess we would be going from airport to Pizzale Roma?

Thank you!!

I'd suggest the Alilaguna. It takes you from the airport into the island with several choices of where to get off. I think that the Ca Rezzonico stop would work for you. There used to be a kiosk in the airport to get tickets from. Once you get your ticket, just exit the airport and turn left (southwest) and follow the covered path to the docks. You can't miss it. It is very easy.

Private water taxis are expensive, but for four people, perhaps it will not be too much when the cost is split. Suggest you research the water taxis and compare that cost to the cost of the bus / vaporetto.

I agree with TC. Check your water taxi prices! The bus is 10 euros or less, frequent departures and it is a short ride through the countryside to Piazelle Roma where the vaporetti begin. You can purchase a bus ticket and vaporetti pass before you leave the airport.
I do this every time I visit and spend my money on food, drink and experiences.

Go in like a baller in the private water taxi! It was so worth it, and with 4 people, not even outrageous.

You’ll most likely want to purchase a vaporetto pass for your length of stay so consider that before you invest in just a one time use ticket

The length of stay passes are a real money saver especially since a single ride is now 9.50 euros.
Do the math

Remember to validate your pass each and every time you board or face a heavy fine —and they do check.

Here’s the official water taxi site-I believe it is still about 130 euros and that’s for all 4 so not too bad

I agree with Jack's suggestion about Alilaguna. It's a wonderful way to get into Venice. I don't know if it's the most cost effective, but it certainly is one of the most unusual :)

hey hey cissy
totally agree with pricegang and christine about taking private water taxi.
we have taken it 4 times, split four ways, and best way to arrive in venice.
you're all in one boat, they help with luggage and take you to the closest water stop to your airbnb. hopefully no pulling/pushing over bridges & cobblestones. save money in your piggy bank till may
aloha

Getting to Venice from Marco Polo Airport.
1. Water taxi will get you close, maybe to, the door of your hotel. Can carry about ten people, will cost about €140 for the boat. No need to book, taxis are waiting at the Marco Polo dock.
2. Shared water taxi. Minimum of two people. Book in advance, wait at the desk in the terminal for the others sharing the taxi. Costs about €30 per person. Google “shared water taxi Venice”, use the venicelink dot com web site. Will get you to a vaporetto stop near your hotel.
3. Alilaguna ferry, as per below.
4. Bus to Piazale Roma, then walk to your hotel, or take vaporetto to the nearest stop. Buses leave from the outside the terminal, tickets at the machine.

Water transport in Venice.
1. Gondolas. Only for pleasure, not for transport. 80 euro for half an hour for the boat, more for evenings.
2. Traghetto – big gondolas, two oarsmen, about ten passengers, for crossing the Grand Canal. Found at Rialto, San Toma and a couple of other places. Cost 2 euro per trip, can save a heap of walking.
3. Water taxis, which are like a floating limo, costs to match.
4. Vaporettos - ACTV. Are waterbuses, operate on a bunch of routes. Get the app Chebateo for routes and schedules. Vaps do not service the airport. Vaps are not water taxis.
5. Alilaguna ferries, service the airport, run from Marco Polo via a bunch of stops to the main part of Venice, Murano and Lido. They stop at some, but by no means all, vaporetto stops.
