We are arriving in Rome and heading to an agriturismo in San Gimingnano for three days, and then Florence for 3 days. Would like to have a rental car for our time in San Gimignano to explore, but won’t need it while in Florence. Any advice on best rental car pick up/drop off points is greatly appreciated. We don’t mind driving from Rome, just prefer least hassle, most sensible option!
Pick up in Rome or at FCO(airport.) Drop off in Florence or at Florence airport. We have done this many times. Look at Autoeurope’s website. You can find pick up and drop locations by entering your details there. You can also call them in Portland,ME. They are a broker and use many sifferent rental car companies. We have used them for years , renting cars all over Europe.
Thank you for the advice!!
Suki’s suggestion would be also mine. However be aware that driving while jet lagged may be dangerous. Pull over at a freeway rest stop (Area di servizio) if you feel overly tired and impaired. The drive from the Rome Airport to San Gimignano is at least 3 hours, most of which on divided 4 to 6 lane freeways (except for the last stretch from Poggibonsi to SG).
