Looking for best routes by train going Venice to Genoa and ending in Monterosso. We are leaving Venice hopefully on first trains out, destination Genoa, to spend afternoon and then leaving Genoa to go to Monterosso. Would like to arrive Monterosso approx 7 - 8ish.

Kathy, the Venice to Genoa journey takes 4.5hrs-5.0hrs. You would receive on high-speed ticket (Venice/Milan) and most likely one intercity ticket (Milan/Genoa. I see non-refundable tickets for this journey beginning at 18Euro for the first two train departures at 6:20 and 7:50am. You could be in Genoa Piazza Principe by 11:00am. If you book through to Monterosso, the agent may not give you enough time in Genoa for your brief visit. Simply book another ticket from Genoa - Piazza Principe to Monterosso. If you go for the non-refundables up to 119 days out, I see fares of 9Euro. Journey time is about 90 minutes. You could spend 4hrs or so in Genoa and still be in Monterosso by 4:30pm or 5:00pm.
