Best train route La Spezia to Arezzo

We will be departing Cinque Terre headed for Arezzo via train. I've searcheds on the DB Bahn website, and it looks like it's going to take an inordinate amount of time to get there. If I just go PTP, the site routes me to Rome first (between 6:45 and 8:00 hours). If I put a layover as Florence, the trip goes through Rome, then to Florence. What am I missing? Do I need to put in separate trips?
Thanks, Scott

For the moment, you are looking out beyond June 12 which is the date that Trenitalia posts their new schedules. The trip takes 3.5-4.0hrs and will require train changes at Pisa and Florence Here's a link to what I'm seeing. http://orario.trenitalia.com/b2c/nppPriceTravelSolutions.do?car=0&stazin=la+spezia+centrale&stazout=arezzo&datag=08&datam=06&dataa=2011&timsh=05&stazin_r=Staz_DA&stazout_r=Staz_A&timsm=05&timsm_r=05&lang=en&nreq=5&channel=tcom&npag=1&lang_r=en&nreq_r=5&channel_r=tcom&npag_r=1&x=30&y=9

Scott, The information I found on the website is probably the same as that Larry provided. Most of the trains on that route have two changes in Pisa and Florence and the shortest travel time is 3H:07M. Using an arbitrary date, a departure at 10:06 will arrive in Arezzo at 13:13. Second class fares vary a bit, but that particular train is currently 18.80€. That's the train I'd probably use as it doesn't leave too early (still time to have a leisurely breakfast at the Hotel and then get to the station), and it arrives at the destination at about the right time (many Hotels aren't ready for guests to check-in until the early afternoon). Cheers!
