Best towns and drives around San Gimignano

In April We will be staying in SanGimignano for 3 days and renting a car.. We will be exploring the area for countryside views, beautiful towns and of course good food. Any suggestions on 2 days and where we should go. Im thinking we would like to explore 2-3 towns a day if possible. Would greatly appreciate any help Thanks

Recommend checking out the DK Eyewitness Guide Back Roads Northern Italy. Our library had a copy, but Amazon also sells. They describe many scenic drives and small towns in the area. Also recommend checking out Greve in Chianti. An excellent restaurant nearby is Ristoro di Lamole- open for most lunch and dinners. Not stuffy at all. Another town nearby is Pazano with the famous Dario butcher shop and restaurant. There are many b&bs and agriturismos in the area.

Hopefully you're going to be staying in a B&B or agriturisimo outside of San Gimignano. S/G is a pretty busy little town from 10:00 a.m. until about 4:00p.m. when the tour buses disappear.
It's an easy drive southwest of San Gimignano to Volterra--a very impressive larger hilltown. Certaldo is another hilltown that's just a few miles from San Gimignano that's worth seeing. Siena is another larger city you'll want to take time to see, and it's especially magical after dark in the center city. There are many other small hilltowns to see, some of which specialize in top quality red wines. All in all, you're not even an hour south of Florence.
