I will be making a side trip to Lake Garda during my time in Italy in a couple weeks and am wondering if anyone can suggest good accommodations on Lake Garda. I am interested in being somewhere with really great views - I'll be traveling with a friend and this will be our first stop so we'll want to primarily just catch up (then we head to east for a bit before concluding in Rome). Sirmione seems to be popular but I'm leaning more towards Malcesine because it seems to have a more desirable terrain. Are the mountains visible from the shoreline in Sirmione (it is much closer to Verona, our second destination) or should we journey further north? Does anyone have suggestions of nice yet budget friendly accommodations in Malcesine? Also, how much time is needed to enjoy this area? Is a full day/one night and part of a second day enough or too rushed? Many thanks in advance! We leave at the end of hte month so any suggestions are really appreciated!
I have a friend who lives in Bardolino. He said the mountains reflect on the lake, and it's very beautiful. We weren't there during the daytime; just in the evenings, and took a nice stroll along the lake's edge on a boardwalk there in Bardolino. We also were in Peschiera for a bit. Both seemed like nice towns. Wish I could give more info, but we stayed in Verona and only saw the Lake Garda area in the evenings after my friend got off work. =-( (driving time was about 20 minutes from Verona to Peschiera, by the way)
