My husband and I are visiting Rome in mid May and we would like a tour of the Colosseum. What would be the best tour to take? Any suggestions?

There are two tours offered by the official booking site. One is of the main levels of the colosseum and the other is of the underground/third tier. Both are great tours and give the history of the structure. You can't go wrong with either.
