Any thoughts as to the best time to visit Tuscany and the Dolomites? The trip will be predominantly focused on the smaller villages in the countryside, rather than the cities. Our interests include photography, so great lighting/color is high on the list.
May would be "between seasons" for the Dolomites---snow still lingering, maybe some mud, and the high meadows not fully green.
I think September would be a good time to catch both areas at their best.

My wife and I are going in Late Feb for 10 days-I also will be doiung alot of Photography-Bob
Can't comment on the Dolomites but we have been to Tuscany several times in May and the poppies were blooming and caper buds are to be found in old stone walls. Weather was perfect.
