Best time to visit Rome

Any thoughts on when is the better time to visit Rome, July, August or September. Have heard crowds can be overwhelming in summer.

Is this true?

A visit to any large tourist location is alwways better in the off season. The rates are better, the crowds are better. Try to go before May 15 and after September 15.

September is also preferable to July or August because of the heat during the summer months.

Did you read the news yesterday? Italy, Germany, etc are being overwhelmed by a heat wave. This is becomming a common thing. We make it a rule to NEVER visit EU countries in the summer. Spring and Fall are always fantastic....and the best thing is that that are not as many of us: "Tourists"!

Agree September would be best. The weather in fall is on the whole is best. Warm but not hot days and little or no rain. I've always had great luck when travelling then.

I went to Rome in April. The weather was great. Temps in low 70's. Great sightseeing weather. Out of 10 days we only had 1 full day of rain, and a day of showers. There were not big crowds, and because it was considered off season, we saved money on the Hotel.
