Best time to travel

Boun Giorgio My husband and I are planning a trip to Rome and Asissi when I retire next year in June. Is September a good time to go weather wise? We have read July and August can get extremely hot and prefer to avoid high temperatures. April, May and June we will still both be working. Any advice will be greatly appreciated thank you Val and Mark

Mid-September or later. It can still get very hot in September but by mid-month, it moderates. Personally, I love October in Rome. We were in Assisi in late September last year and had lovely days, not too hot.

Buongiorno! I'm in Rome and Assisi every July. it's hot, it's humid, it's wonderful (not necessarily in that order). So, if you can look at the weather charts that will probably help you decide the best temperatures/time for you to travel. Assisi is built on the side of a mountain. Even in July the breezes coming up from the valley are cool enough to open the hotel room windows and get out a blanket. Anyway, you've chosen a great way to start your retirement!

We were in Rome one year in early October and it was great: warm enough to eat outside in the evenings but didn't just cook our socks off during the day. I would think later Sept. would be just as nice so go for it!

We have been to Rome & Assisi mid to late September. It was comfortable. Our favorite time to travel. That said, we enjoy warm weather.

Go to accuweather and weather channel websites. Plug in Rome, Assisi and any other place that interests you. Then look for the month or monthly drop down menu and see what the temps were like last year. This will give you an idea regarding what to expect next year at the months that interest you. Also consider October.

Our preference is mid-Sep through October. Generally warm and dry although mid-Sep can still have a little heat.

We have traveled in Italy several times in the fall, mid September to late October. Rome in late September was very hot on one trip. It depends whether you are traveling in northern or southern Italy or both. Sicily was hot in late October. Obviously it varies. Look at weather statistics. Happy planning!

Our experiences--

Mid-October in Sicily (rainy, humid), Florence (nice), Rome (nice)

Two trips late February to mid-March in Florence (chilly, windy, no crowds during week), Salerno (windy, cold), Amalfi Coast (anything from sunny, 50's to driving rain, 40's), Pompei (sunny, 60), Rome (perfect, 50-60).
