Best time split between Venice and Florence!

Hello everybody!

I am traveling to these two cities in October (and Rome but I’ve got it figured out), and I’m not sure which of the following layouts to go with between the two:

  1. One full day in Venice. Take a train early the next morning and have a full extra day in Florence (so 1 full day in Venice and 3 full days in Florence).
  2. Split that middle day in half. Take the train midday on the check out day. (So 1.5 days in Venice and 2.5 days in Florence).
  3. Or spend the entire check out day in Venice and take the train late that night. (So 2 full days in Venice and 2 full days in forence).

This will be my first major trip like this and want to properly plan the trip. Just can’t figure out what to do with that extra day. ANY help and opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Option 3, first choice, option 2, second choice. A big “no” to Option 1!

I'd spend the entire time in one or the other. Two days in each will just scratch the surface, and will probably give you just a ho-hum so-so impression of each. Personally, Venice would be my choice as it is totally unique.
