Best suggestion for Cell phone SIM card in Italy.

Need some more advice. I will have my cell in Italy and have a compatable one, which I have had unlocked to use an Italian SIM. I know that you can go to a shop and purchase over there, but I have been researching purchasing an Italian SIM from "Brightroam", cost is - $.0 - for the card, and the cheapest is $50 airtime for $45. There fees seem reasonable at $.69 for calls to US, and ALL incoming calls are free. Calls in Italy are $.49. I am wondering if this sounds like a typical plan, or would I be better getting the SIM in Italy. Also, has anyone here had any experience with this company. Many thanks! Only just over 5 weeks to departure!

John, are you talking about a Virgin Mobile USA phone? those phones are not on the GSM network and don't use SIM cards, at least none that I have ever owned (about 6 between my mother and me) have used that system.

On our trip to Italy in July 2009 upon arrival in Venice I purchased a SIM card for a Vodafone which we had purchased on a previous trip to Italy. The calls were .16 Euros for calls within Italy; .50 Euros for calls to the U.S. and ALL incoming calls free. There is a Vodafone store on the San Marco side of the Rialto Bridge near Campo San Bartolomeo and many others throughout Italy.
