Plan to visit Verona for 3 nights in August and want to purchase top tier or second tier tickets. Any advice about which site works reliably and/or best? There appear to be several choices....
www.arena.it is the official site. SIL and I recently purchased tickets there for Carmen in June 2016. It is a well-organized site, and easy to manage. We were able to choose very specific seats and then print our bar-coded tickets. I also used that site several years ago to purchase tickets for my son and me to see Aida. Spectacular!
I suggest to wait a little to buy Verona opera tickets. Verona's mayor, after a personnel conflict, has asked the culture ministry to disband the opera company and applied for bankruptcy. He says that the municipal administration will run the opera season instead, and the whole thing looks like a political scheme, but at present and, I would say, for two or three weeks, it is better to wait and look what will be happening. If the ministry does not accept the request I guess the opera season will be regular, but if they really close the present organization there is a definite risk that already issued tickets cannot be honored.
Oh my goodness! Thank you for that information, lachera. What news website do you recommend following in order to watch this situation unfold? I do hope that my June Carmen tickets (not cheap!!) will still be honored...!
Very few websites gave the news in English, I found only two:

Probably slippedisc.com will follow the story. I am going to follow it as well as I am an opera worker in a different company. According to past experience, this is the third time in a few years that all the workers of an Italian opera company are threatened with massive layoffs and closing of the master company. Usually this is a move to intimidate workers into accepting wage reductions and limited layoffs. But as the mayor in Verona, let us say it kindly, looks to have more personality than brightness, we cannot rule out deplorable developments. I do not suggest to panic now, but wait and check again.
Thank you!
