Best scenic train route from Florence to Rome

We will be traveling from Florence to Rome by train in early June. Is the route from Pisa to Rome more scenic or should we just do the Florence to Rome route directly? Thank you.

From Pisa, you can go two ways. First, back to Florence on the Regionale train and then transfer to a high-speed down to Rome. Second, go down the western coast to Civitavecchia where the train goes inward to Rome. Usually, no train changes on these runs. I don't know how scenic the route down the coast may or may not be.

Hi Donnie. The route via Pisa goes along the sea in parts, but the direct train from Florence to Rome is about 90 minutes total, whereas going from Florence to Rome via Pisa will be more like 5 to 6 hours. See schedules on trenitalia.com. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks. I have been looking at the train schedules but if the west route had some good coastal views then it may be worth the extra time.
