Anyone know of the best mode of transportation to get from Venice to the CT? And if by train which one and which route is fastest?

If you go by train, you'll need to change trains a few times. There are several routes. To see them all go to www.bahn.de. Click on the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner for English. Enter Venezia Santa Lucia as your departure point and Monterosso as your arrival point. After you get summary timetables, click on "Details for all" to see the connecting points.

There is no direct train route from Venice to Monterosso. You will make 1-3 train changes enroute. Some runs go via Milan and Genoa and others go through Florence and Pisa. It's a 5.0hr.-6.5hr. journey depending on the train run.
