We will be planning on staying in the Campo de' Fiori area and want to go to the Borghese Gallery. Can anyone help us with the best route to take to get to the gallery via public transport? Research so far suggests the 116/116T electric bus. Any idea on how long it takes? Is there a better route? I would hate to miss our appointment time due to lack of proper timing or routing. Thanks Don
Don, have you checked the roninrome.com website? We stayed near termini last May and used his very clear directions to take the bus to the Borghese. As I recall he has directions from all popular areas to stay, including Campo di Fiori.
The 116 is a good choice. You can catch it near CdF by the Cancellaria. It takes 15-20 minutes, but allow plenty of time as it can be erratic and, depending on time of day, very full! Take it all the way into the park, past the Cavalli dei Marini (horse fountain). From there you have a 5 minute walk to the galleria. Another choice is the #63 bus from Largo Argentina. You would get off on via Boncampagni, but it is a slightly longer walk. Be sure you have a bus ticket or pass and validate! We see fare inspectors all the time.
We stayed near the train station and ended up walking up. I think it took only about 25 minutes, strolling casually. One highlight, we passed by a car dealership and I got to drool on their window.
Sounds like the recommendation by roninrome for the 116 would be the best. Thanks for the time estimate Laurel, I had no idea on how to plan my timing....your input is appreciated. We will be in Roma for a week (and a CIS pass) so will have a weeks worth of time to explore, get lost and enjoy the sweet life. Any suggestions for public transport to the Coloseum from the Campo de Fiore?
Do you recommend the baths fo Caracala or the baths of Diocletian and what transport from CDF to them? Thanks one and all! So much we want to do and so little time Don
