My husband and I are going hike the Dolomites at the end of July. Finishing the hike on 8/2 in the afternoon.
Flying to Venice 7/28 and departure from Pisa 8/8 @1030am.
I need ideas in how to maximize our visit to northern Italy.
We ll have 6 nights to adventure around.
We would like to visit Milan, Lake Como /ágrafa, Florence, Cinque Tere, Pisa, Lucca, Bologna…. Ufff and many more.
But we are realistic and we will be tired. Would love to focus on good food and side-seeing.
Thankyou for the recommendations.
Also, train tickets….. buy passes?
What is the departure point for your homeward flight? That will determine what is 'reasonable' for what to do with your available time.
Train passes in Italy are pretty much as useful as gold plated bearings on your car's muffler.
6 nights is only 5 full days.
There is no way you can visit all of those places in that length of time.
Florence needs 3 nights for the bare minimum.
Pisa and Lucca can be done in a day as a day trip from Florence, if you stay in Florence long enough for a day trip.
Bologna is also doable in a full day. Some visit it by train from Florence (37 min away by high speed train).
Lake Como (let's say Varenna) would need at least 2 nights for a basic visit, although some visit it as a day trip from Milan (70 min by train)
Milan varies. Some people can cover the essentials in a full day, some like to stay longer.
Cinque Terre is hard to reach from anywhere, it's kind of out of the way. It can be done from Florence as a day trip, but it's a long day trip because you need at least 2.5 hours each way by train.
The choice is yours, but you cannot do them all in 5 days,
I am with Joe32F, where are you flying home from?
I am flying out from Pisa on 8/8 at 1030 am.
