Best route from Spoleto to Pisa airport totally bypassing Florence?

We need to travel from Spoleto Umbria to Pisa airport on this Wednesday to drop off our car prior to going to cinque Terre. We would like to totally bypass Florence which is A1 when traveling to Pisa if possible. When we traveled A1 last week from Milan to Pienza, we got into an horrendous traffic jam on the south side of Florence on A1 and decided that we would never travel that road again near Florence, unless we absolutely had to. Is there another fairly quick way to travel to Pisa from Umbria. Yes, there are roads going in that direction along the coast, but they do not look like major roads? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could head for Chiusi and onto Siena and the road that takes you out to Cecina. This will take you through some of the best parts of Tuscany. Once at Cecina, you can go north to Pisa. I can't guarantee that you won't hit traffic.

You'll crawl on those rural roads, too. It's best to get on the Autostrade if you want speed. Yes, you'll hit traffic jams, but so will you hit delays and farm equipment on the smaller roads.

You should bring a GPS. The new TomToms not only give you the fastest route, they receive traffic information and steer you around it. We drove in Italy without a GPS, once. When we came home we bought a GPS and wouldn't go to Italy without it again.

We have a GPS with us. It is our own which we have a European SD card for. We have found it to be invaluable here. It sometimes takes us down cowpaths, but it always gets us there. In the USA, it will tell us if there is a traffic jam ahead, but that feature does not seem to work here. However, we did travel A1 to Pisa around Florence..we had a problem using our credit card when getting off. It charged us 48 euros from Arezzo to Florence, which is far more then it should have charged us. Don't know how we can protest this as the machine ate our ticket. But, no traffic jam..
