We are spending 5 nights in Rome, 3 in Florence, and 2 in Venice... I imagine we will take at least one day trip from Rome and Florence, probably not enough time in Venice to do so. I would really like to see Pompeii, so the RS Naples/Pompeii day trip is likely what we will try to do. What are the other good day trips from Rome? (other than whats in the RS Rome book)? How about from Florence? I was thinking of a day in Siena. Other thoughts?
thx!
Hi Eric. Good idea to get out of Rome and Florence for one day; the cities are great but every trip should have at least a day or two in the country. From Florence THE day trip to do is with Slow Days, which visits a small winery, hilltop town away from the tourists and a castle. We had an absolutely superb day and even shipped some wine home.
From Rome- there must be a similar day out in the hills but we couldn't find one as good as the day in Tuscany.
We went to Sienna as a day trip from Florence. Took the bus there, spent the day and took the bus back. Easy and enjoyable. We also did a day trip from Rome to Ostia Antica. Also easy (by train) and very enjoyable. Unlike Pompeii, there is a lot of shade, so it's more comfortable on a hot day.
