We are winding our way from Nice to Genova before heading inland and would love to enjoy whatever coastal roads there might be along the way. Thank you for your recommendations.

The autostrada provides the best views by far as it is inland a bit and higher in elevation. The coastal road in most sections are beach resorty and slow moving. Which is not to say it's not fun to stop and explore some of the towns. Albenga is very nice, historic and lively in the historic center (away from the shore) and Finalborgo also has an evocative center - the walled part away from the shore.
