Best restaurants in Rome

Any restaurant recommendations for Rome? I was told to ask the Locals where to eat. Is this true?

Any place a couple blocks off a major tourist site will be great. Get whatever you see others eating that looks good. Of course in some places nothing is two blocks from a major tourist site so, look for small busy places with a good number of locals. Do not get the tourist menu and make sure the "menu of the day" isn't just the tourist menu in disguise. Do not order pasta carbonara (although I like it a lot). Extremely cheap to make and usually way overpriced. In the tourist areas most places have a least one English speaker. I've never been lead astray asking what they recommend although I do say "but not expensive". Most people are good souls and the wait staff is no exception to that (at least I'm happier thinking that is so).
