Best rental car return location in Rome, near Trastevere

Hello all! This forum has been helpful for past trips, so seeking advice once again. We'll be renting a car when we leave Venice and plan to return it in Rome, so that we can visit friends and then drive through Tuscany. What is best rental car return location, given that our last destination is an apartment in Trastevere area of Rome? Are the car rental places near Termini train station easy to deal with? We'll be in Rome mid-May.

Lots of Tuscany visitors dump Hertz vehicles a half block from the rail station in Chiusi [Mon-Sat AM]; first train to Rome at 10:54 getting off at Tibertina, seeing how the Termini platform is a long way from the exit. Driving all the way to Rome choose Termini.

We arrange our cars by calling up the broker Autoeurope [seeing how we have a toll free number to call]; get zero- deductible collision, which covers any damage to the body of the vehicle. Read this about driving in Italy and restrictions involved [ZTLs]; never leave anything of value in a vehicle when parked:

Thanks, N-Kingdom, that link has some helpful info in a condensed format. Wish we’d seen it before 1st trip! 😊.

This will be our 5th trip to Italy and have rented cars before, so the question is really about the easiest location in Rome for returning the car. Last year, it was a zoo returning car at Florence airport due to poor signage, wrong instructions, and construction. Anyone have recent experience with car return at Termini?

It has been several years, but when I returned our rental to Termini I circled the station about 4 times, the signage (as seems to be common many places) was exceedingly poor. I remember the rental return being below street level, cannot be very helpful as to the current situation.

It depends on the car rental company you are renting from. Each has its own separate locations.
The car rental return at Termini station is common to all rental companies. It is not below ground level. It’s in a multistory parking structure next to the Radisson Blu Hotel. Rental car returns are on the top floors.

The address and Google Map link of the car rental return garage is below. Save it in your phone navigator (Google Map or other). If you know where you are going it’s easy to reach, and Google knows where it’s going.

Thanks, John and Roberto! I especially appreciate the precise mapping info, Roberto! Now I just need to decide which type car is best to hold 3 adults and our 3 suitcases, then I’ll know which rental company to choose 😊. Thanks so much for the advice!

It depends on the size of the suitcases.
However assuming you are not traveling with a steamship trunk popular in the early XX century, a compact size car (e.g a Fiat 500L) will work.
If you can’t fit everything in the trunk, there is always the possibility of folding one half of the back seat and use the extra cargo space so created. All cars come with foldable back seats that allow to fold 2/3 or 1/3 or 3/3 of the back seat. Since there are 3 of you, one passenger can seat in the back seat with the 2/3 folded for cargo space. The drawback is that your luggage will be exposed if you decide to leave the car parked with the luggage inside.

I recommend you utilize a consolidator for arranging your rental. Most people here, including yours truly, use www.autoeurope.com or www.kemwel.com (now part of the same company, but check both websites as prices vary).

Thanks, Roberto. Didn't know about the seats all folding! But yes, we may make a few stops as we go from one destination to another, so might be be undesirable to have luggage exposed. I'll check both sites to see what's offered!.
