Does anyone know of a good place to stay in Rome for a single person, not necessary to be 3 or 4 star hotel unless it is an unbelievable deal!! Nothing expensive please.

Dana,

You might check the Guidebooks, as they provide lots of listings for Hotels in various parts of Rome, including prices for single/double, etc.

You didn't indicate what you consider to be "expensive", so it's difficult to offer specific recommendations.

You might have a look at This Hotel OR This Hostel for some ideas on typical rates for accommodations in Rome.

I've stayed in both and would recommend both (even at my age, I don't mind Hostels at times, especially at €35 per night for a four-bed Dorm in the Palace location). I travel solo a lot of the time, so have a good idea what the costs are for a "single".

Happy travels!

The Beehive hostel is very accessible - near Termini and they do have private rooms (although I stayed in the dorm) for well under 100 E

Why not check out a convent? Many operate like hotels (albeit with 11 pm curfews), but they're clean an most have single rooms with private baths, plus breakfast services.

The OP has clarified (via PM) that the price range is "right under 100 euros per night" end of Sept and "within walking distance to the attractions" in Rome.

Anyone have any recommendations fitting that?

We used the Bed and Breakfast Association of Rome and found reasonably priced (90 Euro for 2 near the Vatican) for last October. Others have had good luck with Cross-Pollinate though we have not booked with them.

Hotel Italia has singles for 80 euro and Hotel Giardino has singles for 85 euro. That's about as inexpensive as it gets for a nice hotel in central Rome during high season. I've stayed at both of these hotels on multiple occasions, and both are well located just off Via Nazionale.

I stayed at a convent of the Sisters of St Elizabeth of Hungary. Great neighborhood: safe at night, ~4 blocks from Termni; 2 blocks from metro; 1 block from Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, TI, taxi stand, grocery store, and cafes. I think I payed about 30-35E for a single room in January 2009, which included a good breakfast. Little English is spoken, but we were able to work around that without problems. And the sisters were delightful. If you need to leave really early make sure they know and can accomidate it (very heavy complicated Renaissance door that I couldn't figure out on my own). Rick's book recommends this convent, and I'd suggest you check there for contact info, since I don't remember the correct Italian name for the order of sisters.
