Best place to stay in lower lake Grada

Will be staying at Lake Garda in June with daughter and grandaughter and would like to know which town to stay in. (Garda, Sirmione, etc? ). Planning on taking boat trip around lake. Flying out of Verona.

I did a day trip to Sirmione from Verona last May. I really enjoyed the town. Before I firmed up my plans I was going to spend a couple of nights in Malcesine, located on the eastern side of the lake.

I like the North Lake, the northern half of the lake. Any town there will work. Malcesine, Limone, Riva, Torbole, etc.

Sirmione is certainly a must see on the southern side, but in summer I find it a bit too crowded with tourists, so I prefer to visit it, but not stay there. But if you don't mind crowds it's nice.

Be aware that trains arrive only on the southern side. The stations are Peschiera and Desenzano. These are also the largest towns on the lake. All other locations are served by bus and boats.

Thank you for your replies.
I would prefer the northern part of the lake (spent a few days in Riva) but will be arriving from Como and not sure about renting a car or taking a train. Transportation isn't the easiest at Lake Garda. That's why I thought staying at the other end and doing day trip up north by ferry. Also have to get to Verona airport.

I would appreciate any further suggestions. Ruth

We stayed in Sirmione and loved it. That was in September. Yes, it was busy but we liked it even so. Driving into to town when it is busy is a real experience. Be careful.
