Best place to stay close to Fiumicino/Rome Airport for 1 nite?

If anyone has any suggestions on hotel close to airport, please advise since we will have a car returning it to Hertz. Thanks, Ross

This one is about a 7 minute drive from the airport and there is a shuttle for €6. Park Hotel Isola Sacra. We stayed there one night in November. Excellent breakfast buffet included in the room rate.

There's a Hilton right at the airport. Why not just stay near the termini and take the train in the morning? It's very easy and will give you a few hours to explore Rome. Donna

I agree with Donna. The Hilton at the airport is clean, well-managed, and right in the airport complex. You can take the moving sidewalk past the rental car returns right to the airport, so very convenient. We were most impressed with the buffet breakfast and the 8 tables of fresh, fabulous food including American breakfast, Japanese breakfast, fresh fruit, fish, yogurt, pastries, etc., etc. Yes, the price is a little high but the lack of all stress usually accompanying a trip to the airport for an international flight home made it worth the price. By the way, we also liked the bar and the pizza.

Not sure when your flight leaves, but if it's after 09:30, you can use almost any mode of transport to get to the airport. Most US-flagged airline flights don't leave until at least 09:30-10:00 from Terminal 5 at FCO. So I'd recommend staying in town and enjoying your last night in Rome. If you have a 06:00 - 06:30 flight, you would have to book a taxi or private shuttle. We took these flights often, as they are often the cheapest! But if you have a rental car, or have already spent days in Rome, then there are many hotels and B&B's near the airport. This link may help you: The Best Hotels and B&B's near the FCO Airport. Just make sure you know the shuttle procedures. No matter which hotel you stay at, if you're headed to T5, you'll be riding some form of shuttle as it is not connected to the other terminals.

If you have an early morning flight home, I highly recommend the Hilton Garden Inn. The airport shuttle is free and the buffet breakfast is excellent. If you leave before breakfast starts, they will provide a light breakfast to take with you. The hotel is modern, clean, and the staff is very accomodating.

My suggestion is don't stay close to the airport. We did this once for an early flight (7am or thereabouts) and would never do it again. We got there about 5pm and it was as if we'd left the country. The hotel could be anywhere in the US, had absolutely no feeling of being in Italy. Desk staff spoke better English than I do. As a captive client we had to eat disappointing food in their overpriced restaurant. Next time we'll stay in a hotel in Rome and arrange for a morning taxi ride. One more evening in Rome is worth it.
