Best place to spend New Years Eve in Italy

I would go with Florence. I am guessing that any place in Italy would have a true Italian celebration since it will be mostly locals celebrating. We spent a New Years in Nice and it was absolute crazy. Never seen anything like it.

We have been in Italy twice at New Year's Eve, once in Rome, and once in Palermo. Both were blasts. In Rome, people set off fireworks for hours. Palermo was like a huge folk festival with informal performances of singers, dancers, jugglers, etc. in the main square, along with a parade of people dressed in traditional garb. At midnight, everyone cracked out their bottles of champagne and sang and slurped. I would inquire at TI offices to find out where you might encounter such a public celebration.
