Where are the best places to watch the sunset in the Cinque Terre.
Anywhere you have an unimpeded view of the western horizon, most welt-facing beaches work, also west-facing patios. No trees in the way.
Kelly,
You may get some tips from this - https://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic-g187817-i997-k11224732-Best_villages_viewpoints_to_take_sunset_photos-Cinque_Terre_Italian_Riviera_Liguria.html
Here's another example from Riomaggiore - https://images.app.goo.gl/sP8ZjZ6Awf5HKvHX7
And one from Monterosso - https://images.app.goo.gl/ofvpHTATH37SNwTp7
If you're spending a few days in that area, spend the first sunset evaluating different locations according to the light and weather at the time. That will give you an idea which location is best for the effect or photos you have in mind.
Kelly - All the towns face west and have a view out to sea so the picture does not differ much. You can get an unobstructed view from all the towns, but my favorite place is either by the Stella Marina beach in Monterosso, sitting on the rocks (with some wine), where you can see the sun set over Punta Mesco and also see all the other 4 towns (Corniglia looks especially beautiful bathed in sunset), or in Riomaggiore, at the little wine bar right before the path to Manarola pay station, on the left.
The patios at Hotel Porto Roca, on a bluff above Monterosso.
It was darn nice from our balcony at La Spiaggia...which is right behind Stella Marina Beach Bar!
Last month I watched sunset from Riomaggiore, from high up by the church. You could also watch it from the marina area near where the ferry boat docks.
In the past, I've watched it from Vernazza down by the water. Depending on the time of year, the sun may disappear behind the land jutting out before it hits the water. Years ago, I was there in October when the sun was not so far north and could see it set right into the water.
Thank you for all the tips!
We had a spacious balcony in Riomaggiore for the 3rd week of May, and the sun set behind the hill, not over the ocean.
I will just say that you should do some scouting during the day, any Western view will do, just pick up a bottle of wine, avoid the crowds, and everything will be fine.
I am partial to the "marina" in Vernazza. You can grab a drink and relax, but we were lucky enough to be there when a storm was kicking up the waves. The spray from the crashing was was as high as the Belforte restaurant and the waves came over the breakwater. Clear skies too, so the sunset was magnificant. Of course, if it's calm, you can go out on the breakwater which is also lovely. I wish I could attach a picture, it was pretty cool....
Keep whatever is in the background in mind. Often the setting sun can paint the landscape in soft pretty lighting.
