Best place to rent a vehicle to tour tuscany

We are flying into Rome and would like some advice on where the best location outside of Rome (that is accessible by train)to rent a car to tour Tuscany. What rental company do you recommend? Thanks in advance.

We always rent our cars from AutoEurope.com. They will stand behind you if there are any problems. Your car will be Avis, Sixt, Europcar, etc.
Heading to Tuscany from Rome, we have picked up our cars in Rome or at FCO. We never want to deal with the hassle of a train, getting bags on and off, etc.

We took the train to Chiusi and rented our car there.

If you're staying in Rome before heading to Tuscany, it's easy to pick up a car at Tiburtina and quickly get on the autostrada to Tuscany. I've always rented from gemut.com. I've picked up at the airport when I wasn't staying in Rome, but it's not always the most efficient rental counter, and I was really tired when I got to where I was going.

It's easy to pick up a rental car at Avis / Budget in Chiusi. The office there is very close to the Chiusi-chianciano Terme train station, and Chiusi is only about a half hour drive to Montepulciano and the val d'Orcia area, or about an hour and half drive to the Chianti area.

It was also easy to pick up a rental car in Orvieto near the train station. It's a short drive from Orvieto into Tuscany, but like other posters said, it depends on where you're planning to visit.
