We are wondering what’s the best city to fly into from Kansas City if going to Florence for 2 weeks
There are no direct flights to Florence from US
Use Google flights and see what the best options are flying into Rome or Milan
I agree. Here's a link to Google Flights: https://www.google.com/travel/flights/flights-from-page.html
I will say that you will have better luck if you fly into Rome than Florence. You still won't get a non-stop from Kansas City, but you will bring it down to one stop instead of two. It's easy to get to Florence from Rome by train.
Fly direct into Rome and take the train to Florence.
KC is my home airport too and thats what I would do.
From your previous post it looks like you may be moving around. Will you be traveling elsewhere in Italy?
You can fly to Florence itself, but from Kansas City that will require two layovers somewhere else.
If you want only one layover, then you can fly to Rome, and take a train from Rome.
If you happen to visit also Venice or Milan or Naples, those are also airports with direct flights to the US, which you could consider (one layover will still be required somewhere in the East Coast).
My preference for flying to Europe from KC, is (1) Delta via Minneapolis, (2) United via Dulles, (3) Air Canada via Toronto. Most other choices go through Chicago ORD, Atlanta or Newark, and I try to avoid those connections. Consider also, that some of these flights include the first leg on a regional jet which has limited carryon space. If you're not familiar with codeshared flights with other airline partners, pay attention when you book.
KC to Florence is 2 airplanes and a train OR 3 airplanes.
The airline you choose will determine which city/cities you make the connection(s).
The positive of flying to Florence is you do not have to deal checked luggage ( if any) until in Florence.
Really just a matter of telling the hangman which color rope you want him to use :-)
