My family and I will be in Italy for 12 days not including traveling there and back. My wife wants to buy a cameo or two and would like to know where is the best place to buy them. I've heard that Naples is good, which we will be there for a day on a day trip. We'll also be in Rome, Venice, and Florence. Thank you.

Any of those cities should have them. Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast are prime areas.

As you may know...There are many places you can shop for a cameo. One shop that has beautiful items and good reputation is Bimonte Sorrento. When looking to buy expensive items I like to ask the front desk staff or concierge of my hotel for suggestions. You can also ask at the Tourism Information office for recommendations. Another option is to find a good jewelry shop that does not offer cameos then ask them who they recommend for such a purchase. Be sure to thank them well, especially if you do not buy anything in their shop. I hope this helps.

I buy my cameos from GIOIELLERIA BORRIELLO on Corso Italia in Sorrento, it is on the right hand side of the road just past the Cathedral when walking away from Piazza Tasso. It is owned by a family from Torre del Greco which is the centre of the cameo industry in the area. They also do fabulous gold chains.

In Firenze, visit the jewelry shops at the world famous Ponte Vecchio, the old bridge over the Arno River.
In between Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi is Oro Due, Via Lambertesca 12r.
The Gold Market is at Piazza Santa Croce 20r, also near Ponte Vecchio.
The Gold Corner is also at Piazza Santa Croce 15r.
The Cameo Factory is at Via Borgo Santi Apostoli 4r, in between the SMN train station and the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella.
Most of these shops have websites that showcase some of their collections, and contact emails, so you can ask if they sell certain items. Not everything in their shops appears on their webpages. The contact emails may help you establish valuable relationships that will serve you well when you visit and long after you return home.

A day trip in Napoli may give you time to visit the jewelry shops along the central Spaccanapoli street.
