Best Place to Buy (affordable) Leather Goods in Florence?

Traveling with my wife and adult daughters next week! Any recommendations?

People do say the leather school is a good place - I have no experience of that.

My husband bought me a really lovely bag here:

via Vacchereccia, just off the bottom of the Piazza della Signoria

Despite the name, they are Italian handmade bags, not cheap, but not Gucci type prices.

Steer clear of the markets and small shops with huge stock.

There's a whole open leather market area.

The open air leather market is adjacent to the Mercato Centale, which is well worth a visit itself. Last time we were in Florence, my sister and i both purchased shoes at Rive Gauche in th Oltrarno,, good quality and fairly inexpensive, maybe 65E or so. I purchased 2 fabulous handbags on via del Neri in the Santa Croce area, Bayside 1984 made in Bologna. They were about 120E each, wish I had bought one more.

I have cases for my glasses that have been handled multiple times a day, over five years.
They still look brand new!
I bought them in Adam Leather Factory store on Borgo degli Albizi in Florence.
The sign outside says Adam Pelleteria.
The leather in the outdoor markets used to be great 25 years ago…now most of it is factory made, with inferior leather that will be peeling within a short time of use. :(

For beautiful, buttery soft leather gloves, visit Madova just across the Ponte Vecchio in Oltarno. I've been shopping there for 40 years and their products are quality.

I found good quality wallets as gifts at http://www.torofirenze.com/ That was two years ago so I don’t remember prices.
Near the Mercato are lots of kiosks with cheap Indian leather goods.
I can tell good leather from not-so-good after working in a saddle shop part time for many years.

I've bought great things at the Florence markets. You must bargain and you must know quality!! Many of the kiosks have stores right behind them, with more selections and reasonable prices IF you bargain. Spend some time "window shopping" and getting price quotes before you commit.

I have bought several pairs the warmest winter gloves (shearling). I still wear the first pair - after getting wet a few times over a number of years, they aren't pretty, but they still keep my hands warm. I have a wallet that I've used for several years and still looks like new, and two lovely handbags.
