Best place in Tuscany for a small group of artists to stay and paint?

I belong to a group of artists in Alabama, and several of us would like to take a painting trip to Tuscany. I think we'd probably like to find a place via AirBnb (I had a great experience with AirBnb in Paris this April!) but we have never been to Italy and don't really have any idea where to start. All the entries on AirBnb look great- it's hard to know even which part of Tuscany would be good for us!

Does anyone have any general suggestions? I will, of course, be reading everything I can find on Tuscany and Italy itself in this forum, but just thought I'd toss the question out there in case anyone has any ideas! Thank you all in advance!

How long will you be in Tuscany? Do you want to visit museums as well as paint? There's so much to see in Tuscany and what you want to see would help folks suggest a location.

Otherwise, here's an airbnb listing in Chianti that looks pretty darn inspiring for a group of painters!

Thank you, Jennifer! We are in the very beginning stages of exploration and information gathering! I appreciate the link and will definitely be checking it out. I know some of us will want to check out museums and historical places, and some of us will just want to paint. There'll be a good mix, I'm sure. I know I want to see some sights while I'm there- hopefully Florence, at least. I know there's a ton to see in the region and we'll have to be limited if we want to paint.

Check with Albergo at Relais San Bruno in Montepulciano. I cannot think of a more perfect place in the peaceful countryside of Tuscany to stay and enjoy painting. This is a country home with cottages outside the main house and beautiful grounds. Have been there and this visit made Montepulciano a favorite spot for me.... check it out! Have fun!

Thank you Jane for mentioning Relais San Bruno. We are going to stay there for 3 nights in October and it sounds amazing. Can't wait!

Some of the charming hill towns in Tuscany are public-transportation-challenged, so check out the availability of bus and train service before committing. Folks staying in Florence have the option to sign up for a day-trip on a bus to get to some awkward destinations. That will not be possible if you are staying in an isolated small town, unless a bunch of you get together and hire a private driver/guide (which is not a bad idea).

Be especially aware that bus service dwindles (sometimes to nothing) on Sundays and holidays.

I have one in Tuscany, Villa Arnilu with great views across the vineyards to San Gimignano and its towers.

In Umbria, and do consider this one too, Santi Terzi, a palazzo with 8-10 bedrooms right in town with views over the Umbrian countryside. It is in the highest point in the town of San Gemini. A short distance is your very lightly used Roman ruins of Carsulae, a painters paradise. Easy train from Narni (close by) to Rome.

You can Google both.

Have fun!
