I need to make a reservation somewhere in the Lake Como area (we will be staying in Varenna) for our 50th wedding anniversary dinner. Ourselves plus 4 others. Does not have to be fancy but good, friendly service, good+ food and good wine. Suggestions welcomed! Thanks all.

We stayed at Albergo Milano in Varenna a few months ago, and although we did not eat at their restaurant (except for breakfast which was included in price of room), I heard from others that the food was great!

Be aware that the restaurant is closed on Sundays & Tuesdays.

One of your best bets in Varenna for a group of six is probably the gourmet restaurant at Hotel Royal Victoria, which is right in the main piazza, across from the church. You could also try the La Contrada restaurant at Hotel Villa Cipressi, which is also just off the main piazza.
Of course if cost is no object, the ultimate dinner experience would be the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio (a short 20 minute ferry ride from Varenna).

In 2011 we stayed in Bellagio and ate twice at Trattoria
San Giacomo. Their regional specialty is riso e filet to do pesco which is perch served on rice with sage butter and it is delicious! And congratulations on your anniversary. In May we have been married 47 years. Have an awesome time.
